Measurement of overtravel time and determination of safety distances*
|
|
Measurements of overtravel time provide an essential basis for the correct positioning of protective devices
|
|
|
Only if the safety distance has been adequately estimated, in keeping with the overtravel time of the machine, can it be guaranteed that the dangerous movement will have come to a stop before a person enters the danger zone. Wear and tear, however, may extend the overtravel time of a machine. Reasons for this may be a defective brake cylinder, for instance, or a faulty spark extinguishing element. There is then no longer any guarantee that the dangerous movement can be halted in time, so the protection offered by the protective device is no longer reliable. This is why we take the view that measurements of overtravel time are an essential part of any proper safety inspection.

The benefits Leuze electronic offers you at a glance
- Our objectively executed measurements of overtravel time, using calibrated measuring equipment, create a sure foundation for the correct positioning of your protective equipment
- Test results will be fully documented and easy to follow, in keeping with DIN ISO 9001:2000. An optional graphic analysis of the braking movement can also be supplied.
- Early identification of wear and tear in braking components, on the basis of periodic inspections.
The range of services
- Execution of 10 measurements per machine, in keeping with safety standards. On request, graphic evaluation of the braking properties can be supplied.
- Triggering the stop signal by “Autohand” without electronic intervention in the machine controls.
- Use of the appropriate measuring sensors, in keeping with the given machine type: rotary transducers for rotary movements (e.g. with a rotary indexing table) and linear displacement transductors for linear movements. (up to 10m possible on request, e.g. for robots)
- Measuring equipment of the most modern design; test results documented in keeping with DIN ISO 9001:2000.
Relevant norms and regulations
Currently applicable:
ZH 1) 1/597 Safety regulations for electro-sensitive protective devices used in connection with power-driven working equipment.
