Working in the field of Industry 4.0

4.0 is coming in industry – that much is for certain. But the actual implementation is still under discussion. At this point, there is great design freedom for our engineers and technicians for incorporating their ideas in development projects in the context of intelligent and flexible production through the use of sensor systems.

The technical basis for Industry 4.0 includes intelligent, digitally networked systems by means of which largely self-organized production is made possible: People, machines, systems, logistics and products directly communicate and cooperate with one another in Industry 4.0. Production and logistic processes between companies in the same production process are intelligently interconnected to make production even more efficient and more flexible.

As an innovation leader in the field of optical sensors, we position ourselves as a driver and pioneer for the implementation of Industry 4.0. As a manufacturer of sensor systems and through our competence in the area of connectivity, we deal intensively every day with the possibilities offered by Industry 4.0 and view this as an opportunity for new business models.

Process and diagnostic data from the field level being passed to various levels right up to the control level is nothing new. We already offer efficient solutions for this, e.g., the IO-Link interface and integrated connectivity. To achieve a far-reaching Industry 4.0 implementation, we will in the future need to meet the challenge of also making data for control available in the cloud. The sensor becomes the enabler for Industry 4.0, the sensor system becomes the data source for service and big data applications. This is accompanied by an increase in data transparency, by means of which we see important application utility for our customers.

Our products & focus industries

Sensors are the eyes and ears of industrial automation technology and provide a wide variety of information concerning the current condition of a machine or system, e.g., about position, fill level, etc.

Our sensors...

…identify (detect) optoelectronically, via ultrasonics or inductively whether or not objects are present, e.g., in the areas of packaging system or intralogistics ("switching sensors")

…can actively check distances or position system parts with millimeter accuracy ("measuring sensors")

…safeguard danger zones and access points to machines and systems, thereby offering reliable protection for the user. In a danger situation, our sensors automatically switch off the machine, thereby preventing work-related accidents ("sensors for safety at work")

…scan bar codes in the production and logistics area ("Ident sensors")

…can transfer data wirelessly, e.g., in a fully automatic warehouse for the storage and retrieval of pallets ("optical devices for data transfer")

…can supply images of machine areas that are inaccessible and out of view to the operator ("industrial IP cameras")
