Reliable identification of manually affixed bar codes
Description
When bar codes are manually affixed to shrink-wrapped pallets, they are often attached unevenly and askew. In this case, the position of the affixed bar codes may vary in height by approximately 500 mm. As a result, the success rate during reading (process reliability) is only 93% here. The user's new requirement is a success rate of 97%. A better solution for bar code reading is therefore sought.
Solution
Two bar code readers of type BCL 501i are used (oscillating mirror models). One is mounted to the left and one to the right of the pallet. Together, they have a scanning range of 600 mm. With this solution, the user achieves a process reliability of 99%, thereby exceeding all expectations.
