The ODT 5B diffuse sensor is a high-performance solution for applications where processes must be reliably monitored using detection technology, requiring minimal installation space and delivering an impressive operating range. This compact laser sensor with background suppression utilizes modern Time-of-Flight (ToF) technology, eliminating the typical interference caused by background reflections. The result: stable, reliable detection regardless of the object’s surface or installation conditions. The sensor operates reliably even in demanding conditions, such as with changing materials or when detecting at large angles.

However, the ODT 5B’s most distinctive feature is evident when it comes to material handling: as a modern alternative to traditional solutions, it requires no background references or additional reflectors. Interference, like what can occur with conventional sensors due to shiny surfaces or high-visibility vests, is a thing of the past. This not only significantly reduces the effort required for installation and design, but also greatly simplifies commissioning while maintaining high process reliability. The overall package is rounded off by its exceptional cost-effectiveness, setting new standards in the ToF segment.

Compact laser distance diffuse sensor for detection and measurement tasks with high operating ranges

The ODT 3CL1-2M and ODT 25CL1-3M diffuse sensors have been developed for applications where the presence of objects is to be detected and measurement values are to be output via IO-Link over long distances. The laser sensors with background suppression work with TOF (Time of Flight) technology and reach operating ranges of 2 m (ODT 3C) and 3 m (ODT 25C).

The switching sensors with measured value output have two independent switching points and can be used in many ways: In intralogistics, they can be integrated into shuttles for various applications, ensuring reliable positioning as well as presence and compartment occupation checks. For AGVs (automated guided vehicles), the diffuse sensors monitor e.g. the position of the transport material. Compact diffuse sensors with high operating ranges are also used in automobile production, e.g. to control robot grippers or for quality control. In the battery industry, battery cells can also be reliably detected from greater distances and at large angles despite their blue and/or glossy surface.

The 3C (11.4 mm x 34.2 mm x 18.3 mm) and 25C (15 mm x 42.7 mm x 30 mm) series include compact photoelectric sensors and diffuse sensors with long operating ranges and large functional reserves. We are expanding our distance sensors’ operating range with the ODT 3C and the new ODT 25C laser diffuse sensors. The ODT 3C diffuse sensor with triangulation principle, already included in the 3C series, achieves operating ranges up to 150 mm and is suitable for packaging processes, for example.

TOF technology meets hygiene: laser distance diffuse sensors for demanding applications

The ODT 5xCL1-2M diffuse sensors have been developed for applications in demanding environments where the presence of objects is to be detected and measurement values are to be output via IO-Link over long distances. The laser sensors with background suppression work reliably with TOF (Time of Flight) technology, even with difficult objects and surfaces, and achieve operating ranges of two meters. Application solutions can be redesigned on this basis.

The switching sensors in a stainless steel housing with measurement value output have two independent switching points and can be used for a wide range of applications: In the pharmaceutical industry, the sensor is ideally suited to provide a solution that meets the requirements of the EU GMP Directive Volume 4, Annex 1 (see white paper). Typical fields of application are presence inspection, positioning and quality control.

The ODT 53CL1-2M and ODT 55CL1-2M laser diffuse sensors expand our range of distance sensors for long operating ranges. 

Other applications for the 55C series stainless steel sensors include the automotive industry, wood processing, and any other applications that require robust housings.
