Inductive sensors with long operating range

For switching distances up to 40 millimeters

Inductive sensors are used in all industries for the contactless detection of metals. The position detection of moving machine components is important for controlling the mechanics. Inductive sensors are the first choice, even if tools, input materials or end products made of steel, aluminum, copper alloys or stainless steel need to be detected.

Inductive sensors, also called proximity sensors, are known for reliably detecting metallic objects over short distances. Models with increased switching distances enable operating ranges up to three times longer than standard inductive sensors. The sensors are therefore also suitable for applications with small installation spaces and/or large distances or tolerances – for example with inaccurate alignment, mechanical play or vibrations.

The robust sensors with the designation IS 200MM.2 are made of nickel-plated brass and are available in cylindrical M12, M18 and M30 housings. They can even be used under high mechanical stress and provide highly accurate measurements and repeatability at a good price-performance ratio. The sensors with switching distances of up to 40 millimeters can be installed quasi-flush or non-flush, depending on the respective application. The sensors expand the existing inductive product portfolio.

Long switching distance for reliable processes

Inductive sensors with a long switching distance can be mounted further away from the detection object. This simplifies the implementation of the sensors in applications with moving or imprecisely placed metallic objects and reduces the risk of collisions during operation.

Lower storage costs through standardization

The long switching distance of the new IS 200 series’ sensors means one sensor model can be used for several operating ranges. Standardizing designs can reduce stocking costs.

Application

IS_230mm_S12_Kran

Frontal detection in the gantry crane

Requirement:
Goods are warehoused or stored temporarily using an industrial crane system. A sensor is to determine the crane or trolley’s final position to enable exact positioning.
Solution:
The IS 200 series’ inductive sensors reliably detect the crane’s final position. The cylindrical sensor IS 230MM.2/4NO-22E-S12 can be mounted quasi-flush and achieves operating ranges of up to 22 millimeters.
IS_218MM_S12_Lackierstation

Skid conveyor system position control

Requirement:
In the automotive industry, the skid conveyor system’s position must be determined precisely so that subsequent work steps can be coordinated and synchronized.
Solution:
Inductive sensors in a cylindrical design are suitable for this task. The robust ISS 218MM.2/4NO-20N-S12 sensors stand out for their long switching distances of up to 20 millimeters.

Object detection of product carriers

Requirement:
In packaging processes, the stacking and supply of primary packaging often takes place in magazines. The position of these magazines or feeder fingers must be detected to prevent collisions and to control the feed. Detection must be reliable even if carriers are inaccurately aligned.
Solution:
Inductive sensors detect the metal structures of the magazines reliably and precisely. The 212 series sensors (e.g. ISS 212MM.2/4NO-10N-S12) are particularly suitable for this application due to their small design.
