Absolute precision

Leuze is expanding its product portfolio in the field of measurement sensors to include incremental and absolute rotary encoders – for modern automation solutions from a single source.

Owen, November 6, 2026 – Whether in conveyor systems, robot axes or packaging machinery, rotary encoders – or simply encoders – play a central role in industrial automation. They detect rotational movement and transmit the measurement data to the control system, enabling machines to move precisely in a controlled way. This requires reliable sensor technology. Leuze offers robust, easy-to-integrate solutions with its range of incremental and absolute rotary encoders in various versions. With the new EI and ES/EM product series, OEMs and system operators can cover an even wider range of applications with sensor technology from a single source – from individual machines to complete material flow systems.

Two measurement principles, one goal: Precise motion detection
The new incremental encoders are available in various sizes ranging from 24 to 115 millimeters. They transmit their signals to the control using transistor-transistor logic (TTL) or interference-resistant high threshold logic (HTL). With a resolution of up to 25,000 pulses per revolution, these encoders are also suitable for applications that require particularly precise measurement of rotating components’ positions, angles of rotation, and rotational speeds. Users can choose from various flange and shaft designs, allowing them to integrate the sensors precisely into different machine concepts.

Leuze also offers various sizes, shaft diameters, and a selection of flanges for mounting its absolute rotary encoders. Available in single-turn or multiturn versions, the sensors provide position values with a resolution of up to 43 bits. The Sensor People from Leuze have designed the encoders to be maintenance-free and equipped them with common interfaces such as CAN, Ethernet, and SSI.

Robust construction, easy integration
Robustness is a key focus across all variants in the series. For example, the rotary encoder’s shaft is mounted on two bearings to accommodate even high axial loads or vibrations. Users also benefit from versatile mounting options as well as simple commissioning and operation.

Measure more, move more
In addition to linear measurement and positioning solutions, Leuze’s expanded portfolio now covers a broader range of applications. The rotary encoders can be used, for example, to monitor conveyor belt velocity in continuous conveyors or in material flow, to control the feed rate of film packaging machines, or to measure the steering angles of automated guided vehicles (AGVs) and autonomous mobile robots (AMRs). In this way, the sensor manufacturer is strategically expanding its portfolio to become a full-service provider for key applications that are becoming increasingly important in automation and robotics.
