Sensor solutions for self-service luggage drop-off
In addition to the check-in counters for dropping off luggage, self-service check-in stations are also used. These are equipped with sensors to check dimensions and detect tags, and which must be safe for both travelers and employees.
Length detection
Requirement:
The length of the piece of luggage must be measured after it has been placed on the conveyor belt in order to determine whether it is too big.
Solution:
The CML 700 light curtains take measurements and can be easily integrated into the side panels of a check-in station. They can be up to 3000 m in length as a transmitter-receiver system and feature various interfaces, and they enable reliable and individual design.
Height check and occupancy monitoring
Requirement:
An area needs to be flexibly configured for height and occupancy monitoring and connected to the station control system by means of sensor evaluation. Ideally, there should also be a function to detect when a person has accessed the station in order to avoid an incorrect start.
Solution:
The ROD 100/ROD 300 area scanners take measurements and feature detection fields that can be freely configured via Ethernet-based interfaces. Here, one device is required for monitoring luggage height and another for occupancy monitoring.
Baggage identification
Requirement:
The predominant standard at airports is optical reading of the code on the baggage tag with different suitcase sizes and print qualities.
Solution:
The BCL 600 code reader has an increased depth of focus and covers a large reading range thanks to the integrated oscillating mirror. Thanks to the code fragment technique, even damaged codes can be read without any problems. The built-in interfaces enable simple integration into control systems.
Safety emergency stop and status display
Requirement:
In the event of malfunctions in the process or incorrect operation, it must be ensured that an emergency stop causes the check-in station to stop.
Solution:
An easy-to-install MSI-SR safety relay with a fixed function for connecting the ESB 200 emergency stop and switching off the station. Tower lights from the A7 series or - if aluminum housing is required - TL305 are used to display the operating status.
